کتاب الغیبة که یکی از منابع بسیار مهم و دست اول حدیثی در باب احادیث مربوط به غیبت امام زمان ارواحنا فداه است تألیف ابو عبدالله محمد بن ابراهیم بن جعفر نعمانی کاتب، معروف به ابن ابی زینب (م ۳۶۰ق) می باشد. او که در حفظ و نقل حدیث تبحّر داشت و با منابع اصلی حدیثی و راویان مهم شیعه و سنی در ارتباط بود، این کتاب را برای مقابله با اندیشه های انحرافی و پاسخ به شبهات مخالفان اهل بیت پیامبر علیهم السلام دربارۀ تفکر مهدویت نوشته است…. روایات هر باب به صورت مرسل یا مستند نقل کرده که به بیش از یکصد حدیث می رسد. این کتاب یکی از منابع معتبر دانشمندان حدیث و عقاید به شمار می رود.این دانشمندان در آثاری مثل الارشاد (شیخ مفید)، بحار الانوار (علامه مجلسی) و الغیبة (شیخ طوسی) از مطالب و احادیث این کتاب بهره های فراوانی برده اند. مؤلف محترم این اثر گرانقدر ابوعبدالله محمد بن ابراهیم بن جعفر نعمانی مشهور به ابن ابی زینب مجموعه مطالب کتاب خود را بر اساس بیش از پانصد روایت معتبر در سیصد و پنج صفحه و بیست و شش باب به شرح ذیل تدوین نموده است.
